In our Artefact Marais gallery-boutique, we welcome a voice, words… “Il était une voix” (There Was a Voice), Helmie Bellini’s album, was conceived and developed as a poetic work. This is how it will be celebrated for its 10th anniversary, with no instruments other than the bare voice.

About the artist

Poet, author, singer, composer, Helmie Bellini is an artist whose artistic projects celebrate African culture and also express her openness to the world.

After her self-produced debut album, “Il était une voix” (Once Upon a Voice), released in 2011, which received a “coup de coeur” (favorite) award from the specialist magazine Jazzmagazine-Jazzman, Helmie Bellini was the official voice of the Marciac International Jazz Festival (JIM), a hub of jazz in France, between 2012 and 2018. In parallel, in 2014, she began work on the “Kongo Square” project, an ode to the African roots of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. Named a “Talent of Congo” in 2015 and a member of the coalition of artists for the “General History of Africa,” Helmie Bellini also participates in creating workshops for young people (conservatories, schools), and provides advice and programming suggestions, particularly for major events (Salon du Livre, Africa Pavilion – Books and Authors from the Congo Basin, Saint Louis Forum, Market of African Cultures – MOCA).
