GABA Black Tea

100g Loose Leaf Tea

$22.00

A smooth black tea with a subtle floral and sweet note.

In 1984, Japanese researcher Professor Tojiro Tshushida of the National Institute for Advanced Research in Japanese Cuisine participated in research on theanine in tea and discovered a peculiarity of nitrogen metabolism. Specifically, by exposing green tea leaves to nitrogen very soon after harvesting and before steam roasting, they produce large quantities of GABA.

It was first marketed in 1987 in Japan by a tea producer in the Shizuoka region. While in Taiwan and China, GABA tea can be made from Oolong or Black tea, in Japan, it remains exclusively made from green tea.
